Discovering the Latest Enhancements to HPE GreenLake (Pt. 2)

Last week we gave an overview of all the upcoming enhancements that were announced at HPE Discover 2022 in June. Plenty of exciting changes are coming down the pipeline for the GreenLake offering, which grants organizations the ability to modernize all their applications and data. (Read last week’s blog here)

This week we take a closer look at two of the most noteworthy improvements HPE announced regarding GreenLake. First, we will investigate the reimagined private cloud. Afterward, we will explore the new cloud services that were unveiled which assist in driving data-first modernization.

Reimagined Private Cloud

Various concerns and priorities for customers, such as control, data gravity, data latency, application enlargement, and predictability have all contributed to the growing market for private cloud. Although issues with manual processes, high levels of complexity, visibility and governance concerns, as well as the inability to scale due to narrowly-focused solutions have hindered the acceptance of traditional private cloud offerings to date, modern, private clouds are being welcomed as part of many enterprise customers’ hybrid, multi-cloud, and digital transformation strategy. The market opportunity that presented itself has been swiftly addressed by HPE GreenLake, which looks to cement itself as the go-to solution for pay-per-use, private cloud-seeking organizations. Whether the use case is for a smaller departmental workload, or massive initiatives spanning thousands of applications and workloads across the globe, there is value to be had. The new HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise delivers a flexible, scalable, automated, and enterprise-grade private cloud experience.

As the first of its kind in the industry, a private cloud with a true public cloud experience sets HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise apart from the competition. The offering is unique in that hyperscaler-like roles and an accountability matrix are offered, while still providing a user-friendly interface. Designed for both traditional and cloud-native applications alike, modular infrastructure and software are included in HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise, and the fungible and flexible design is present across all needs, whether it’s bare metal, virtual machines, or container workloads. The capacity to manage the total cost of ownership through a scalable and modular pay-as-you-go service is a benefit that cannot be understated.

Other highlights of the Private Cloud Enterprise include the ability to manage workloads, rather than infrastructure. Enterprise-grade SLAs are delivered with GreenLake’s offering which cover the full lifecycle, including installation, provisioning, firmware updates, hardware, operations, maintenance, support, and growth planning. Additionally, both cloud-native and traditional applications are provided an open platform where they can be run at scale with speed and simplicity. Moving and refactoring data is no longer a pain point as the cost, risk, and effort associated with it is eliminated. GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise has the capability to be programmatically provisioned, configured, and scaled with a design built for the modern DevOps model. An organization’s approved toolchains, images, configurations, and networks can all be integrated with GreenLake. On top of that, the GreenLake marketplace provides a broad ecosystem of independent software vendors, service providers, and colocation partners which are all accessible. The benefit this delivers comes in the form of easy customer deployment of software, all of which are qualified for the GreenLake platform and pre-tested. Finally, consumption analytics can be leveraged to inform customers on usage and spend. Location, service type, and/or business can all be used as filters when viewing and optimizing costs. Aggregated usage across the deployment can also be achieved. Ultimately, lower and more predictable usage costs are a reality thanks to the focus GreenLake put towards cost control and transparency.

New Cloud Services

Data-first modernization was top of mind for HPE during the development of multiple new cloud services which were also unveiled at HPE Discover 2022. Unified access to data, the ability to gain insights, manage, store, and recover data seamlessly from edge to cloud are all necessary in order to achieve desirable outcomes, such as creating new business opportunities, speeding time to market, transforming industries, and informing critical decisions.

The new cloud services from HPE GreenLake deliver on the ability to capture and rapidly act on insights from data. Let’s take a more in-depth look!

HPE GreenLake for Data Fabric provides a managed service, with an analytic-ready data fabric built for hybrid environments. Company-wide access to data with a single data store aims to increase productivity. The ability for data to be reused by multiple applications, users, and use cases is what a single data store achieves. In a hybrid cloud environment, HPE GreenLake for Hyperconverged Infrastructure makes managing virtual machines and infrastructure easier thanks to its ability to deliver cloud operations with a SaaS-based interface. Compute lifecycle management is simplified and automated with HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management. Compute operations as-a-service are unified with a single console for management and monitoring of every compute device from edge to cloud. This sets a new standard for modern cloud operational models. Unlimited scale and a straightforward pay-as-you-go platform combine to unlock a better recovery experience with HPE GreenLake for Disaster Recovery. Operations can be resumed quickly with industry-leading recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives, no matter if the disruption came in the form of ransomware, outages, natural disasters, or anything in-between. Customers will benefit from recovering in minutes to a state of normalcy after a disruption. When it comes to providing an efficient backup solution for your AWS deployment, HPE GreenLake for Backup and Recovery delivers. Both on-premises and cloud workloads can benefit from this unified backup-as-a-service solution which provides a single management console. Workloads in AWS can also be supported for virtual machines with the help of this new service. 100% data availability built on a cloud operational model makes HPE GreenLake for Block Storage an industry first when it comes to storage-as-a-service. Cost-optimized storage service for general-purpose workloads can be leveraged in this new offering through included general-purpose service tiers. Best-in-class data efficiency, integrity, and durability are features of this service which can support small-sized virtual environments and mixed/secondary storage workloads.

There is no doubt that the upcoming enhancements to GreenLake will be welcomed with open arms as HPE takes its flagship offering to new heights! Look for these improvements to go live in September 2022.
